Newbies vs L337

BLITZ_Molloy:
As any TA player will know, playing with a 4 year old computer just doesn't hack it at the l337 level. The computer will fizzle and hiss, as your tanks randomly appear and disappear and soon are all destroyed by invisible jerky enemies. And so the poorer members of the community are condemned to be handicapped and forever newbies.

Does the newbie-l337 hierarchy encourage the achievement of excellence, as PeterC would like us to believe, or is it an elitist tool for the achievement of social segregation? The answer is surely that it seperates the haves from the have nots.

Of course the philosophical ramifications are immense. Marx says: "The proletarians have nothing to lose but their chains. They have a world to win." This idea suggests that the newbie players, will unite to overthrow the l337 oppressor by sheer force of numbers, murdering all before them and ultimately setting up a new TA system where resources are shared according to need - a utopian society.

Of course, there is the laissez-faire school of though that says, the system should be left as it is and in the long term talent will win over hardware.

Keynes spots the obvious problem here when he says "In the long term we are all dead." Particularly apt with regard to TA.

As it is, the current ideology seems to be Nietzhean: "If ye would go up high, then use your own legs! Do not get carried aloft; do not seat yourselves on other peoples backs and heads." Nicely put, but remember Nietzhe is responsible for the concepts of the will to power and the superman. These later inspired Hitler's Mein Kemp and the rise of Fascism. Is this the future TA aspires to, a future of the master race and those condemned to the gettoes of the TA Strategy & Tactics board?

o_O
I didn't understand a WORD.

FINALE:
Im afraid I actually understood it to some degree. Which scares the flour outta me, because Im not high at all.

*walks away from the computer puzzled, "how is it possible!*

KeZx:
It would be nice if the average level of intelligence on the board was able to understand that. Its a little unstructured but I have no trouble understanding it.

There already is a place where newbies rule and high resource/BT games are the standard, GameSpy.

------------------
I think, therefore I am.

IntoxiChrist:
If GameSpy is a glimpse of the Marxist utopian vision of a socialist gaming community, I think I'll start throwing more support behind the bourgeois. In the case of violent, carnage-filled strategy games, Nietzsche and Darwin have the right of it. I'd prefer to raise myself to der UberMensch than cater to the lowest common denominator and thus destroy all that's good and holy about TA.

Blitz, you're too damned educated to be preaching to these morons. They were lost before you even clicked "post".

Who are you to pass judgement on me?

I understood it perfectly.

Saundie:
There is one major problem with this theory, Brolly, and that is with the newbies. Eventually, some will become l337 and so will be overthrown by the jealous newbies. This will continue in a cycle, and will not get better.

With regards to the post itself, i think O_o describes it very well. Better luck next time.

I understood it just fine.
So I realize one of two things...

A. Either I am as 'Out Of It' as Molloy was when the post was written.
Or
B. The rest of you are stupid.

Right now I'm thinking choice B is the correct one...

Ahnteis:
In games, as in most sports, I almost always prefer to play with competent people who also enjoy the game. Playing with complete "n00b"s isn't much fun once you pass a certain level of skill, and playing with uber-l33t players who concentrate so much on winning that they forget it's a game, isn't much fun either.

PeterC:
LOL. Some people here are very easily impressed. Anyone who did understand it would know it is total dribble with no meaning at all, and seems to be nothing more than a thinly-veiled way of showing off some GCSE knowledge of political and philosophical theory. At no point in that trash does he make any point or actually say anything that makes sense. You don't need to know much about the issues in question to realise that.

[EDIT: And Nietzsche had nothing to do with Nazism, and his doctrine was misunderstood and perverted by the Nazis. It is ridiculous to imply in some way that his ideas led to World War Two and Auschwitz.]

OoOooOoo, look who's desperate to be seen as the most intelligent person here. STFU PeterC, Molloy's post did have meaning, admittedly he digresses a bit when he ventures into his political relations, but the first paragraph at least had plenty of meaning.

------------------
Just kidding

Pyro-John:
The fact I don't understand anything doesn't say anythign at all about my intelligence. I am not very capable in grasping concepts such as he speaks of, I am a simple man, who watns things to be told straight and to the point. Anything complicating it in my eyes is beating around the bush.

That is why I often seem to be blunt and wreckless - I don't embilish my words and my meanings, and say it straight as I think. Diplomacy should be left best to the capable.
